a year...and a little more

Has it really been over a year since my last post? I guess I sort of reached a point where I was just done with blogging. I wasn't sure why I was doing it anymore, and honestly, I just didn't feel like I had anything super important to write about. After writing about Sara's story for over 2 years, I just didn't think anything else mattered as much.

But here I am...back with another post. The main reason I'm back is because we're expecting baby #2 (technically, baby #3, but more on that later). When I was pregnant with Wyatt, I used this blog as a pregnancy journal of sorts, and I still enjoy looking back on those posts remembering the excitement and joy, as well as a few of the not so fun parts about pregnancy.  I'd really like to document this pregnancy in the same way and I figured this was probably the easiest way to do it.

With that said, consider this pregnancy post #1 (as I get back into it, I'll probably write about other topics unrelated to pregnancy).

So yeah, no more hiding it. I'm around 14 weeks pregnant, due mid August (but let's be honest, it could be early September if this one is anything like Wyatt  #noexpectations).  We are all so excited, including the little Mr. pictured above. He is thrilled about becoming a big brother and goes back and forth on whether he wants a little brother or a little sister. Brett and I both think it's another boy, but we'll find out for sure at the end of March.

God sure has blessed us with this pregnancy and we're very thankful. We had a miscarriage back in May and would've been welcoming that baby into our home in December. I know so many women deal with miscarriages and sometimes multiple miscarriages...both early in their pregnancies and late.. and some that even make it all the way to labor and delivery before losing their precious baby. My heart aches for all these women. But I have been so encouraged and uplifted by several of them.  Something that has been drilled into my brain and heart over the last few years is one simple word: HOPE. "Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer." Rom 12:12.

We found out that I had miscarried at my 12 week appointment, but I had already lost the baby over a month before that point. Viewing the ultrasound, it was determined that our little baby had stopped developing at 8 weeks and 3 days.  I, of course, wanted to know exactly when that day was and what I was doing, regardless of the fact I couldn't have prevented the loss. So, upon arriving home and in tears, I flipped back through my calendar until I found the date. 8 weeks and 3 days...May 2. The 1 year anniversary of Sara's death. My emotions took over. Initially, I was so angry. Why would God give me another reason to hate this day?! Of all days, why May 2?  But then, I began to find comfort in it. As strange as it may sound, I found comfort in thinking, "This is Sara's baby. She is holding and rocking and loving on that little baby...showing the love that I would've shown him/her if I could." And whether or not that's true, I can't help but think that God orchestrated the timing so I would find the slightest bit of comfort through those thoughts. I will always keep that image in my heart.

The story doesn't end there though. As one would expect, I struggled for awhile with the loss of this child, and as the due date drew closer and closer, it became even harder. The "what if" thoughts started creeping in and I just longed to be holding that baby. But wouldn't you know it....the day before my due date, I took a pregnancy test: POSITIVE! I couldn't believe it. So I took another one (ok, maybe two) and sure enough they all read the same result.  I was so excited, yet so scared at the same time.

But here we are, 14 weeks later. And although I still get anxious every once in awhile, I'm doing my best to trust in God's plan and continue being excited and thankful for this little one growing inside of me. So thankful.

then and now. now is WAY better

It's hard to imagine that just 2 weeks ago I was looking like this:

WOOOAAAHH!!! I almost forgot how huge I got. This was taken right before we left for the hospital. It's so crazy to look at this picture and think that Wyatt was just in there. Snug as a bug and pretty comfortable apparently. And now...now he's lighting up each and every minute of our days. He had his two week check-up today and he's a healthy little boy. He's up to 9lb 2oz and 21 3/4 inches (up from 8lb 3oz and 20 1/2 inches at birth). He's a good eater and sleeper and other than some minor gas issues, he's been such a happy little guy. And making us oh so happy as well. . .

I'd like to say that he's giving us a little grin in this picture, but maybe it's just the gas I mentioned earlier. :)

antsy, eager and gung ho

We're gonna have a baby!! Only 2 weeks left. SWEET!

Everything is ready to go . . .
baby clothes are all washed and put away, car seat is installed, hopsital bags are packed
. . . my arms await him!

Speaking of washing baby clothes, that is some NOISY laundry.
All the little buttons and snaps do some serious banging around in the dryer. I never realized.

Here's the baby belly. I've been taking a belly pic every 2 weeks, which means only one more picture to go. WOO HOO!

Can't wait to meet you, little man!

thirty, flirty and thriving

name that movie....anyone???....yep, 13 going on 30.

and while i do love that movie, this post has nothing to do with it. it only involves the thirty part. and okay, probably the thriving part too, as i pray this little boy is thriving inside of me.

but seriously, 30 weeks? that means i only have 10 more to go! woooaaahhhhh. it's really starting to sink in now.

i'm going to be a MOM.
brett's going to be a DAD.
we're going to have a BABY.

he is definitely growing...i am as well. i love feeling him move around, but it's starting to be a little more uncomfortable for me now. as much as i appreciate his little punches and kicks, my ribs and hips are singing a different tune. actually they probably are groaning a different tune rather than singing. but it's all worth it. i can't complain.

our lives will be FOREVER CHANGED.
we'll be EXHAUSTED & EMOTIONAL,
but ELATED.
it will be WONDERFUL.
and we CAN'T WAIT.

ps. is it just me, or does my face/half smile in this picture say, "i'm exhausted"

25 weeks

Here's the 25 week baby belly. I feel like I'm really starting to get big.

Also, we got our crib yesterday!!...and I'm so excited to set it up. We'll have to wait until after the holidays though because the baby's room still has a lot of stuff that needs to be moved out before it has room for the crib. This is what it looks like though (only ours is in black):

Oh, and for those of you wondering, it's 5pm and I only have 2 more items to check off my to-do list. YAY!

We hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and is able to relax and enjoy in whatever way you may be celebrating!

ducks

and no, not the Oregon Ducks. The Civil War is over, people!

I'm now 23 weeks pregnant and realizing how quickly this little boy is going to be out of my belly and in my waiting arms. With that thought comes the realization that I better get moving on preparing for his sweet arrival. So. . .

My brain has been consumed with all things baby! I have done a self diagnosis and seem to have come down with a case of mommy madness. Seriously - I don't think there is a baby website, book, or magazine I haven't looked at. I have browsed through cribs, changing tables, strollers, carseats, and bedding, like there is no tomorrow. Funny thing is, I still haven't made a single decision on anything we want/need. I tend to be pretty picky and particular about what I want, and on top of that, I find myself thinking, "What if I find something better?" Which brings me to the next issue: the naming of this child. What a huge responsibility! Brett and I go in circle after circle discussing names and seem to get no closer to making a decision. Good thing we have a few months left, right?

I remember being like this when Brett and I were engaged. I'm such a planner and organizer and like to be totally prepared ahead of time - so much so that I end up STRESSING myself OUT! It's absolutely ridiculous.

Earlier today, my mom posted on my sister's CaringBridge website about having all her "ducks in a row." She wrote the following: "I really like to have all my ducks in a row. I like to have a plan and be able to stick to the plan. I recognize that God is showing me that maybe HE wants my ducks in a circle. . . or maybe HE doesn't even want me to know where my ducks are. . . OR maybe it doesn't even MATTER where my ducks are!! What a thought! "

This was a great reminder to me. I would love to have all my "ducks in a row" way before our little guy gets here so I can feel like a super prepared and organized mommy. But all in all, does it really matter? We are SO BLESSED and SO THANKFUL for this baby and shouldn't that be my focus? Thank you, Mom - for passing on your somewhat crazy, obsessive, organizational trait. But more so, for reminding me that sometimes "it doesn't even matter where my ducks are."

Oh and why not add a recent baby bump picture. Here I am at 23 weeks -

A Busy November

I can't believe it's already November. I'm just about halfway through my pregnancy (what...already!?!), the holidays are right around the corner, and so much is going on this month.

I just got back from a 10-day trip to Hawaii with my 2 best friends, Sarah and Lyndsey, and it was such a great time. I'm sure I could take up quite a bit of this blog post with all the fun, relaxing and crazy times we had, but instead, I'll just post a couple of pictures.
The pictures include:
* a hike into Green Sands Beach
* snorkeling at Snorkel Beach
* dinner in our Halloween costumes, provided by Sarah
* and a day at the Hilton

I just returned from Hawaii on Friday night and I'm only home for a week before heading out again to go be with my family. I'll spend a week in San Francsico, helping out with my sister's chemo treatment in the hospital, and then home to Nevada for the week of Thanksgiving. It will be really good to see my family, but my poor husband...he is having to survive without me for 3 out of the 4 weeks this month.

So...in this week that I am actually home...

We get to find out if our little one is a he or a she, and we can't wait. As I've mentioned before, Brett thinks it's a boy, and I think it's a girl. Our ultrasound is on Tuesday afternoon at 4, so come back on Wednesday to find out who's right.
Here is my 19 week baby belly:

15 and Fall

Fall is here and I'm loving it. Typically I only love the fall in Salem for about a month or two. And then . . . the rain starts. And I count down the days until the sun shows itself again. For now though, I'm enjoying it. I spent last Friday enjoying fall to the max. I started off the morning with a pumpkin spice latte and a walk in the park with a good friend, followed by sweater shopping at Old Navy and a new haircut. Nothing says fall like pumpkin spice latte's and sweaters.

Tomorrow I'll be 15 weeks along in my pregnancy...almost half way there. I have another appointment next Thursday and then the appointment after that (which will be at 20 weeks) is when we find out what "it" is. He or She?? As of now, I have a feeling "it's" a girl. For no reason other than a feeling. Brett's feeling is definitely a boy - of course. But I have no doubt that if it's a girl, he'll be wrapped around her little finger as soon as she arrives. We'll find out either way in just 5 weeks! Here's the baby belly at 15 weeks (okay, 14 weeks and 6 days to be exact).

Hope you're all enjoying this fall season...
